What does an alternative Battle Abbey Wedding look like then?
Emily and Mike – my absolute dream boats, demonstrated perfectly what an alternative battle abbey wedding is, and wow they are SPECIAL!
Let’s go back to the back end of 2021 when these gawj babes got in touch with me, touching base over Zoom talking about wanting pictures in the haunted monk house at Battle Abbey….my electric simultaneously cutting out, and a message ‘don’t worry we want to book you’. Honestly… absolutely fell in love with these babes there and then!
Now let’s fast forwards to the day, oh my goddddd i was blown away when i was walking up to the venue, captivated by the magic of this truly magnificent building. Then i walked inside and it took my actual breath away!
This was literally one of my most favourite weddings of my year so far, it may have been bitterly cold and i didn’t have a coat, but these babes had my stomach and face hurting from all our laughing together, their guests took me under their wings (and may have constantly wanted me to get pissed with them).
I honestly wish i could have stayed and partied with these babes all night. And the thing i loved the most about them… they trusted me 100% to create magic and art and allowed themselves to be nothing be truly god damn authentic. Now we all know what being authentic does!
Battle Abbey listen up, this modern wedding photographer needs to come back and hang with you again.
Over to the couple to tell their story of their alternative wedding in their own words
So we met a long old time ago now (it will be our nine year anniversary the day we get married :)) and we met online! I had been moaning about a guy and a friend of mine at the time made me a dating site profile (OK Cupid if you must know) and I didn’t take it seriously but then came across young Michael! He had a similar story and our new mutual friend (and bridesmaid, Aiyana!) set him up with on OkCupid and we got to chatting.
We had an incredibly romantic first date… met outside Sainsburys, bought a case of beer, ordered some pizza, watched Black Books and he stayed over lol.
The rest is kinda history 🙂
The proposal
So we were meant to go to Canada, we had make huge life plans as I sadly lost my dad in July 2019 and had one of those cliche “my life is going by and I need to do something!!” awe decided to leave our jobs and go travelling, alas ye olde Covid struck and we were stuck! So I was then unemployed and our Canada plans had been scuppered and one day as I was feeling extra sorry for myself lol, Mike suggested we go for a walk along the beach to help calm my soul.
When I met him after work he was being so CAGEY loool and kept looking around and I was like you good?! And then we were talking, he was being his usual lovely self and as I began to quickly calm down and we were just nattering as we do and i mentioned that I hadn’t eaten my share of the lasagne from the night before, so he can have it and it was with that that he got down on one knee on Shoreham beach and asked me to marry him!
It was a mix of screaming, crying and just the most overwhelming amount of love. I walked back from the beach just holding my hand up to strangers.
What the couple had to say about their wedding journey
It’s been a bloody ride!! So as I was unemployed, I had sooo much time to just plan so luckily got a lot done then and then life happens, new job, moving etc and the planning kind of went to the side whilst we got our lives on track. Then the last kinda 6 months have honestly just disappeared haha. We’re super excited for the day, but to be completely honest, after nearly two years of planning and having many, many an opinion that we didn’t ask for LOL we’re very ready to partyyyyy and are then just really excited for our future together to be honest.
